TLC Gives Thousands of TOMS Shoes in One Day

Taken from one of the few three-story buildings in Swaziland, Inyatsi Construction Company, is this photo of the Manzini city soccer field.  Students line up to receive new TOMS Shoes from The Luke Commission trucks and trailers.

TOMS Shoes are fitted one-at-a-time on this winter day in Manzini, Swaziland. Co-director Echo VanderWal and one of the Swazi organizers stand in the center. The Luke Commission Compassionate Medicine is a Giving Partner with TOMS. Together they seek to improve the health of the children’s feet by protecting them from disease and injury. New shoes also give dignity and make life a little sweeter for children in Swaziland, one-third who are orphaned.

Students, thousands plus, wait patiently to receive their pair of TOMS Shoes from The Luke Commission in Manzini this July. The Luke Commission offers free healthcare throughout Swaziland and partners with TOMS to give free new black shoes to students. Black shoes are part of the required school uniforms, and therefore serve many purposes, as well as offering protection to young feet.
